Get an effective solution to fix Exchange server error 2140

While using Exchange server database, when Exchange Message Transfer agent is started, you may face certain issues that can lead to occurrence of the following error on the screen:

“Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent service on \\ServerName. Error 2140: An internal Windows NT error occurred.”

After getting this error, when you try to run the MTA database integrity checker utility (Mtacheck.exe), you get another error message similar to this:

“Database contains serious errors and cannot be automatically repaired”

Subsequent to this error, there are a number of events recorded in the application event log such as Event ID 2152, Event ID 2127, Event ID 2155, Event ID 2187 and Event ID 2219 followed by descriptions.

Cause:

Microsoft exchange server error 2140 occurs when the wrong path value of MTA database exist in the Windows registry

Solution:

In order to fix error 2140 Internal Windows NT error, you have to edit the system registry so as to specify the correct path of MTA database. To accomplish this task, here are some steps discussed:

First of all go to Start->Run and type regedit to open the system registry

There, you need to search the following registry entry:

”HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeMTA\Parameters\MTA Database Path” and then after mention the correct MTA database location in the Value textbox available.

Next, you need to locate the following entry:

“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeMTA\Parameters\MTA Run Directory” and check out the location of MTA Run Directory mentioned in the Value text box

After making all these operations, close the Windows registry editor and try to restart the Exchange server. But even if the Exchange server error 2140 remains, then you need to repair the databases using Edb repair tool which is competent enough to resolve up all the problems related to Exchange server database and thus you can easily access the databases.
